Creating an Book Inventory File for Import

Hello Koha Technical Folks,

Looks like the Koha inventory feature works well. It’s taken me sometime to figure out the details on the needed file type but it does seem to work, here’s what I did…

Milford Elementary School scanned their book barcodes into an Excel file this last summer, I took this file and saved it as a UTP-16 file type as well as changed the format of the barcode to a number in Excel, tried to import it into the Koha Inventory module but it keep giving me an error. So I loaded the file into a text editor and saved it as UTF-8 with a Windows CR and LF (selected DOS as the Line Break) option and I made sure there was no CRLF after the last barcode in the file. The file imported fine with this format.

One issue to be aware of is, Koha continued to time out on the import (importing and changing the “date_last_seen” takes some time for 10,000+ records) so I had to split up the barcodes into two separate lists.

Again, this seemed to work well and our media folks should do this once a year…

Adding Partial Fines

For the Partial Payments of Fines. When doing a partial payment, go to the students fine area. click on the tab, “Create Manual Credit”. You can then put the barcode of the book the student is paying for, or leave that blank. Add the amount he/she is paying and a description and a payment type, just use credit.
